Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>Themba Vilakati, a teacher by profession did the country proud after finishing the recently ended Comrades Marathon and earning two medals.<\/b><\/p>\n

South Africa\u2019s Tete Dijana won the Comrades Marathon for the second consecutive year, with a record-breaking time of 5:13:58hours. Vilakati, an educator from Sidvokodvo Railway Primary School, who was also among the participants finished the race 07:23:18hours. For his efforts, Vilakati was awarded two medals; one for finishing the race and the other one is called \u2018back to back\u2019 medal. He was among the first five athletes that were awarded two medals. A \u2018back to back\u2019 medal was introduced in 2005 and order to qualify for one you must be a Comrades novice and you need to complete two consecutive Comrades Marathons.<\/p>\n

Coming in second among the Eswatini teachers who took part in the marathon was Senzo Gamedze of Manyeveni Primary School under Siteki Top Branch. He completed the race at 08:48:04hours, while Saneliso Mkhatshwa of Siteki Nazarene High closely came after Gamedze hitting the finishing point at accurately 09:37:07hours.Taking the fourth place position was Madoda Nkambule from Mhubhe High School and Phesheya Vilakati from Mpaka High School who had a tie and finished the race at 09:37:17hours. Other participants were Siza Dlamini, Themba Mamba and Bheki Matse to mention a few. They also received medals.The Comrades Marathon which took place last Sunday in KwaZulu-Natal is an ultra-marathon of approximately 89 kilometres which is run annually in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa between the cities of Durban and Pietermaritzburg. It is the world\u2019s largest and oldest ultra-marathon race.<\/p>\n

Conquered<\/b><\/p>\n

The direction of the race alternates each year between the \u2018up\u2019 run (87 km) starting from Durban and the \u2018down\u2019. Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT) members conquered their ultimate Comrade Marathon. A number of teachers from different schools participated with keen interest in the race.Eswatini Athletics (EA) Marketing and Communications Officer Victor Mavikane Dlamini said they congratulate all those who attended the marathon and were proud of them. \u201cThey really appreciate their broad running effort. We also want to thank those individuals who attended the Kwazulu -Natal (KZN) Ultra marathon in South Africa,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
