Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>The football fraternity paid tribute to Prince Thulani \u2018Mau Mau\u2019 Dlamini, who was laid to rest this morning.<\/b><\/p>\n

The former Mbabane Highlanders and Moneni Pirates legendary star was hailed as one of the greatest strikers of his generation. During a memorial service held yesterday at Lobamba Christian Revival Church, his family, in the obituary, said he was a professional soccer player who set goal-scoring records during his heyday.<\/p>\n

The late prince holds the highest scoring record per season, with 39 goals that no local striker has matched yet at least in the generation before the likes of another Highlanders legend in Master Dladla, Teenage Dladla\u2019s brother. The closest to the late Dlamini currently is Young Buffaloes midfielder Sandile \u2018Saviola\u2019 Gamedze with 26 goals scored in the 2021\/22 season.<\/p>\n

At least over 500 people, including football administrators such as former Highlanders Director Bheki \u2018Rubber\u2019 Simelane, and soccer legends were present. Pirates Lukhele, who spoke on behalf of the Pirates\u2019 legends, said Prince \u2018Mau Mau\u2019 always performed beyond expectations whenever he was in the pitch. He said he amazed them as players as he improved his game until he earned a national team call-up, where he also left a mark.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Highlanders\u2019 Patron Benson Dlamini described \u2018Mau Mau\u2019 as one of the most remarkable players to have ever played for the team. He expressed their sadness over his death and said they were still in shock. Dlamini said he was a respectful and well-behaved player who served both clubs with dedication.<\/p>\n

Some of the notable figures who were part of the memorial service included Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) and former Eswatini Football Association (EFA) President Adam \u2018Bomber\u2019 Mthethwa, among others. Meanwhile, \u2018Mau Mau\u2019 was found dead in his car about a fortnight ago with suicide not ruled out by the police at the time.<\/p>\n
