Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>The Vulamasango High School Hydro Power System Company which came second during the Africa Company of the year competition has hoisted the country\u2019s flag high. The company attained the impressive results during the competition which was hosted virtually by Mauritius on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Winning the first prize was Kenya and the third prize went to the host, Mauritius. The company had made a Hydro Power System which they created to help Emaswati and Africans at large to cut costs of electricity.<\/p>\n

The company was made up of four students from Vulamasango High school who were, Luyanda Dlamini (CEO), Tebesutfu Mdzawu (Productions Manager), Nkosephayo Makhubu (Marketing Manager) and Siphokazi Ndzimandze (Financial manager). The position two earned them a prize money of US$800 (aboutE12 000). They also won the FedEx Award for best customer service.<\/p>\n

The FedEx award comes with four iPads for each of the company managers. JA Eswatini has been dominating the Africa competition since 2017 as they have won either position one or two since then.<\/p>\n

In 2017, they came position two where Lusoti High School represented the kingdom. represented In 2018 Mjingo High School got position one when represented by Manzini Nazarene. During the 2020 competition, Manzini Nazarene also emerged winners. In 2021, Manzini Nazarene got the first position.<\/p>\n

The only competition they have faced in the African arena has been Gabon, Kenya and Nigeria. JA Eswatini\u2019s Communications and Marketing Specialist Siphesihle Mkhonta congratulated Vulamasango on behalf of the organisation.<\/p>\n

She said they were proud with the pupils\u2019 performance. Mkhonta went on to say their partnership with pupils did not end on the competition day as they held the hands to see through official company registration and establishment.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe pupils\u2019 project of creating a Hydropower system had a huge potential from the onset. In fact, we went to Africa optimistic that we will come back with all the prizes,\u201d she said. She added that Africa would now be aware of Eswatini\u2019s potential when it came to the competition following the stellar performance attained over the years.<\/p>\n

The competition which had nine African countries competing this past weekend, was the second virtual competition and the 11th Africa COY Awards.<\/p>\n

This years\u2019 competition was themed \u2018Innovating with Grit.\u2019 Mkhonta said they were ecstatic as a country office for once again representing in the Africa stage and bringing prizes home.<\/p>\n

She said Vulamasango won the National competitions last year with a product that stood out and had potential for growth in response to one of scarcities which was electricity. She said the theme was inspired by pupils who demonstrated resilience and adaptability in overcoming setbacks caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

Businesses which have survived the pandemic are those which were able to innovate and adapt quickly to new systems and processes that enabled them to continue serving customers despite school closures and other challenges. Mkhonta said over and above the second prize winning, Vulamasango got the FedEx award which provided customers and businesses worldwide with a broad portfolio of transportation, e-commerce and business services.<\/p>\n

The award gets given to the team which shows good customer care and community responsibility in their business. Vulamasango partnered with FedEx in delivering their hydropower system to their customers and adopted a feeding scheme in Luyengo. Mkhonta highlighted that JA Eswatini had a business development unit which facilitated the eco system in ensuring the high school pupils were transitioned into entrepreneurs when they completed school.<\/p>\n

Currently, pupils were part of the JA Alumni that has established over 800 businesses to date. collaboration Junior Achievement across Africa equips young Africans with the employability and entrepreneurial skills and mind-set they need to build thriving communities.<\/p>\n

Through the delivery of financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship training and in collaboration with schools, technical\/ vocational centres and other partners, JA Africa works in 13 countries reaching over 250 000 youth each year.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe competition, organised annually, is the culminating event of the JA company programme, which is a 16 week-long business training program that equips young people with entrepreneurial and employability skills needed for career success. Working in teams, the pupils develop their business skills by starting their own companies while in school.<\/p>\n

They design, produce, market and sell their products and services, giving them real-world exposure to the world of business.<\/p>\n
