Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>His Majesty King Mswati III has dissolved the 11th Parliament in preparation for the 2023 General Elections.<\/b><\/p>\n

During the Sibaya yesterday, the King said the outgoing Parliament had done a commendable job. He encouraged those who will form part of the next Parliament to follow in the footsteps of the outgoing one. The King said since the nation was geared up for the general elections, the time for the 11th Parliament had come to an end. \u201cWhen it is a few days before the general elections, we always gather here to say that those we had elected have concluded their work. I do pray that as we go out for the elections, God and the ancestors may guide us in the path of peace and honouring respect in our various committees,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Announced<\/b><\/p>\n

He then announced that the term of office for the 11th Parliament had come to an end. Unlike in 2018, when His Majesty dissolved the 10th Parliament, this time it seemed like this was with immediate effect. In 2018, His Majesty made the announcement on June 19 but said the Parliament had until June 30 to wind up its operations. Another difference is that this time around, His Majesty dissolved Parliament when the registration exercise for the next general elections has been concluded. Also, it is different from what transpired in 2013 where His Majesty dissolved Parliament on August 2, which was a day before the nominations.<\/p>\n

Notably, His Majesty did not state what would happen to Cabinet, as in 2013 there was an announcement of a committee which he referred to as \u2018sigejane\u2019 that was to hold the fort while a new government was still to be appointed. It has always been the norm that whenever Parliament is dissolved, His Majesty is left with a small team he will work with to continue with government business.<\/p>\n
