Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>This comes after the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE), through Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Kenneth Makhanya, revealed that there were a number of elite teams, who rushed to MTN Mobile Money (MoMo) agents and merchants, for votes. He said the agents and merchants made profits through the transactions by the MoMo users.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese agents and merchants can lend each other money and MTN does not charge them for the transaction and this is what is called a floating transaction. These floating transaction are the ones that earned points; which is the reason we saw the shooting up of the votes,\u201d Makhanya said. The former DStv Premiership side, Mamelodi Sundowns, manager said after witnessing the shooting up of the votes, they engaged the company (FinTech) to scrutinise the votes as they did not understand the reason behind it. \u201cIt was then that MTN FinTech team started an audit review of the transactions; I think you will remember that on Friday night there was a blackout of the system until Saturday. What was discovered is that in the close to 3 million votes in the system, 2 151 000 of them were from agents,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Makhanya disclosed that 965 000 votes were from the agents and 1 200 000 from the merchants. \u201cThose votes will be removed from all the clubs who got them and they will be nullified; we have requested Fintech to address that challenge before midnight. Secondly, Fintech has already blocked the merchants and the agents from making the float transactions, which makes them to earn the voting votes,\u201d Makhanya explained.<\/p>\n

The CEO went on to explain that it was not all the agents in the system who were doing that, but they had requested Fintech to monitor the votes daily going forward and they had committed themselves to do that. \u201cI would like to urge Premier League clubs to continue with voting, but through the appropriate platforms as it was highlighted before,\u201d he said. He also disclosed that the reason they were encouraging teams and the general public to use the appropriate channels for voting was to help the sponsor to re-finance the sponsorship. \u201cLet us promote the *7000# unless you have registered as an agent or merchant, there is a balance in your account. Please use them to vote for your clubs,\u201d he said. He further, hoped that the votes in the accounts would surpass those that would have been forfeited by Fintech before yesterday midnight.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Fintech representative Afi Dlamini assured teams and the public that all the votes would be legit going forward as they would make an audit to ensure that they were authentic as per the regulations. \u201cWe are transparent in this voting,\u201d Dlamini said. On the other hand, by 4:42pm, Pigg\u2019s Peak Black Swallows were leading on the voting leader board with 1 332 199 votes, with MTN National First Division newcomers, Lozitha Spurs were on the second spot with 594 101 votes.<\/p>\n
