Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>Five years after the first broadcast deal between the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) and Eswatini Television Authority collapsed, a new highlights show deal has been clinched.<\/b><\/p>\n

The highlights show deal, worth E512 000 for the eight-month duration, was signed and launched during a press conference yesterday at Sigwaca House. PLE Chairman Mark Carmichael and Eswatini TV Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Kenneth Maziya signed the deal on behalf of their organisations, marking the renewal of a \u2018marriage\u2019 which had dissolved five years ago following a pronounced E2 million broadcast deal. Carmichael described the new highlights show deal as groundbreaking and would help the PLE cross the bridge to professionalism and financial independency. \u201cThis is a good day for football. A good day for the PLE and the phrase football is business will now be a reality. We see a bright future for our players and our football. We see this as an opportunity to market our teams because digital platforms are very important now. The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the dynamics of football,\u201d Carmichael said.<\/p>\n

He said having done research, they gathered that 70 per cent if not more of club- revenue in all the top leagues in the world, were being derived through TV broadcast rights. \u201cWe go long way with Eswatini TV from the time the late chairman Victor Gamedze started the journey maybe five years ago. I am happy to re-introduce this deal again. We are happy as PLE to sign this agreement,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Pandemic<\/b><\/p>\n

Carmichael said with the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, they were hoping and praying such partnerships would help the sport grow in leaps and bounds. \u201cNo matter how small or big we are as a country, if we pull resources together we can make a success of our football. We thank His Majesty\u2019s government for allowing football to breathe during the COVID-19 pandemic era and allowing the re-introduction of the soccer fans into the stadiums,\u201d Carmichael said. Eswatini TV Acting CEO, Maziya thanked the PLE for giving them the platform to help boost the local content and increase viewership.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis partnership will help us produce local content as mandated by government and though we have financial challenges you didn\u2019t consider that, you looked at the bigger picture. This will help grow our viewership and this is a partnership that will help us a lot,\u201d Maziya said. Eswatini TV Senior News Editor John Molelekeng then explained that the deal was not a live broadcast but there would be a highlights show to be aired on Tuesdays, which would give the players and the league itself great exposure.<\/p>\n
