Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>The Bible Society Committee has distanced itself from the floodlights blackout experienced at Mavuso Sports Centre.<\/b><\/p>\n

Fans started complaining about the floodlights blackout during the final of the Bible Society Mayoral Cup, which was staged this past Saturday. Highlanders went on to win the tournament on penalties following a goalless draw after 90 minutes. They beat Denver Sundowns 5-3 on penalty shootout. The finals started at 4:30pm due to the delay in penalty shootouts in the first two semi-finals. Denver Sundowns beat Manzini Wanderers in the first semi-finals 7-6, after settling for a goalless draw on regulation time. The second semi-final between Highlanders and Moneni Pirates was also decided on penalties, with the former winning 5-3.<\/p>\n

Bible Society Mayoral Cup Public Relations Officer (PRO) Comfort \u2018Hlasela\u2019 Shongwe said they had paid the required amount for the venue. \u201cWe had paid the required amount to those who manage the stadium, but we were made aware that there were faulty floodlights. We were hoping that we will start at 9am but all games were delayed,\u201d said Shongwe said. He said the reason they finished late is that they did not anticipate that all games will conclude in penalty shootouts. \u201cThe first game started 20 minutes later and then there were issues of penalty shootout in all the matches. It really derailed everything. It was dark when we were doing presentation but it was not that bad,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He also disclosed that there was no power at all at the stadium as they used a generator for the sound systems and other things that needed power. \u201cBeside the power issue, it was a successful tournament. We promise it will be bigger and better next year,\u201d he said. Meanwhile Eswatini Investment Promotion Authority (EIPA)\u2019s Mangaliso Mkhatshwa did not respond to questions which were posed to him by this publication. Fans started complaining during the finals, such that they opened their flashlights from their cellphones. Over 5 000 fans had their cellphone flashlights on and roared in anger on the darkness.<\/p>\n
