Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>The National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) is working together with NGOs and civil society organisations to coordinate emergency response efforts and provide immediate assistance to those affected by the disaster.<\/b><\/p>\n

NDMA Communications Officer Wandile Mavuso said so far, 15 tarpaulins have been distributed to affected households and the rapid assessment is still ongoing.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) and Baphalali Eswatini Red Cross Society (BRECS) are currently conducting a rapid assessment to determine the impact of the ongoing rainfall in all affected areas and to identify appropriate response interventions,\u201d said Mavuso.<\/p>\n

In addition, he said the windstorm has had a devastating impact on 81 households, affecting an estimated 388 individuals and causing significant damage to infrastructure, including buildings, roads, and power lines.<\/p>\n

\u201cMany homes and public buildings have been severely damaged, with roofs torn off while fallen trees and debris affected transportation routes. The windstorm also disrupted the power grid, leaving many areas without electricity. This has caused numerous challenges for those affected, including the loss of communication and the inability to refrigerate perishable goods,\u201d said Mavuso in addition.<\/p>\n

He further mentioned affected families are in a difficult situation and urgent action is needed to provide temporary shelters and restore the power grid.<\/p>\n

Some of the affected constituencies include; Lobamba, Hhukwini, Nkomiyahlaba, Madlangempisi, Ndzingeni, Motshane, Mkhiweni, Kukhanyeni, Ludzelundze, Nkhaba and Mbabane West.<\/p>\n
