Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>The Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) has denied allegations that they were holding on to Mbabane Highlanders prize money for the past MoMo Cup tournament, with highlanders insisting they have not been paid.<\/b><\/p>\n

PLE Chief Executive Officer Kenneth Makhanya, clarifying about the matter to EBIS Radio said, \u201cAs PLE we never withheld any club’s money, we made all necessary payments, including that of Highlanders.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe problem was with Mbabane Highlanders’ bank account where we made the payment to. When the money bounced we requested them to write a letter to us once their account had been sorted,\u201d said Makhanya.<\/p>\n

It was earlier reported that the capital city giants are at loggerheads with the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) over last season’s MoMo Cup prize money after the football administrators allegedly withheld the capital city giants’ E100 000 for damaging the synthetic track at Somhlolo National Stadium.<\/p>\n

The incident occurred in November 2022 during the semi-finals of the MoMo Cup after the team lost to Moneni Pirates via penalty shoot-outs.<\/p>\n

In previous reports the club’s Public Relations Officer Kenneth Dlamini relayed that they were frustrated by PLE over the prize money and confirmed that they haven\u2019t received their share. He said they made means to reach the PLE where they were told a meeting would be convened between Highlanders, EFA and ministry of sports, culture and youth affairs. To date, nothing has come to fruition.<\/p>\n

When asked again on latest developments, Dlamini said, \u201cI really think this statement is too shallow, because I am sure that if this was about an account it could have been sorted by now.<\/p>\n

And if PLE says they wrote a letter to us, what was the response from us?\u201d said Dlamini.<\/p>\n

Makhanya did not want to talk at about the issue, saying, “I won\u2019t be talking about Highlanders, my full response is what I said on radio in the morning (yesterday),” said Makhanya.<\/p>\n
