Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>Despite not winning the tournament, Eswatini golfers fairly competed in the recently-ended King\u2019s Cup Golf.<\/b><\/p>\n

The tournament, which was played at Ezulwini and Country Club, was played from Friday to Sunday.<\/p>\n

Eswatini professional golfers won a combined E90 440.<\/p>\n

Winning the biggest chunk was James Pennington, who won E28 500 after carding a combined score of 141, while Meshack Zwane won E21 208.<\/p>\n

The latter finished on a score of 142 over the two days, Saturday and Sunday.<\/p>\n

Coming third under the Eswatini category was Raymond Mathonsi, who carded a score of 144 to earn E11 306.<\/p>\n

Another professional golfer Mandla Dlamini Junior also earned the same amount as Mathonsi as they were both ranked 16th.<\/p>\n

Oscar Dube and Peter Dlamini also made E9 060 each after carding a score of 145.<\/p>\n

Pennington said he enjoyed the overall event.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought it was organised well and the course was in a beautiful condition.<\/p>\n

I am truly disappointed not to win the event as it is a special event and one that means a lot to us as the host nation.<\/p>\n

I unfortunately could not replicate my good scoring from the qualifier the week before, but fought hard and gave my all on both days,\u201d said Pennington.<\/p>\n

He said as players they were so grateful to the sponsors of the event, Eswatini Royal Insurance Corporation (ESRIC), Eswatini Electricity Company ( EEC), MTN and Nedbank for their contributions to the event.<\/p>\n

\u201cPersonally I am extra grateful to ESRIC for providing me a platform to play and help achieve all my dreams.<\/p>\n

We are already looking forward to next years\u2019 edition and I am going to be working hard to achieve the goal of winning such a prestigious tournament,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Zwane thanked His Majesty King Mswati III, organisers and sponsors for hosting the event.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt brings together players from all over the continent.<\/p>\n

We hope for better growth of the event in near future.<\/p>\n

As emaSwati we hope to see more events before the main event to allow more emaSwati to be more competitive.<\/p>\n

emaSwati are showing a big improvement and we hope for better sponsorship to allow growth,\u201d said Zwane.<\/p>\n

He also said they hoped their fair showing in the tournament would inspire the youth.<\/p>\n
