Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>Green Mamba head coach Ernest Mavuso said he was unhappy with the way Mbabane Highlanders treated him.<\/b><\/p>\n

In fact, the coach said his heart was broken because he was fired for winning.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was left confused after being fired because I thought the team was on the right track. I know as coaches we are hired to be fired but not the way it happened at Highlanders.\u201d<\/p>\n

The tactician, who has now turned the Correctional Services side into a football powerhouse, was sacked by the crowd pulling side on February 7, 2022 with his trusted assistant Sandile Lulane despite the fact that they had played 10 matches unbeaten.<\/p>\n

The team was also at the summit of the MTN Premier League log standings.<\/p>\n

The gaffer has now won the MTN Premier League and the Trade Fair Cup within a period of 15 months. Interestingly, Green Mamba have become Mbabane Highlanders\u2019 hoodoo team since Mavuso took over in March 2022.<\/p>\n

The soft-spoken coach spoke for the first time after his unceremonious departure at the black and white outfit.<\/p>\n

Pained<\/p>\n

\u201cI still remember like it happened yesterday. I was fired without a reason and we were at the top of the log table at the time. I was called a rented coach for no reason and this really broke my heart. It really pained me, more so because my father was very sick at the time. My father is a die-hard Highlanders supporter.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said for all this time, he did not want to talk about his sacking at Highlanders.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was hard to come to terms with it but again everything happens for a reason. Here I am today and I am enjoying coaching this great team called Green Mamba,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mavuso said this was not by any means a way of getting back to Highlanders but was merely speaking his heart out.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe my sacking was a blessing in disguise. My soul is now at peace and I have finally spoken about it. I found myself a team that has a clear vision and timely objectives. I am happy with the support I am getting from our President Phindile Dlamini, down to the kit manager and of course the ball boys. We work as a unit and this makes my job easier,\u201d he said. Mavuso also commended his players for their dedication.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese are true soldiers; I like their attitude and fighting spirit.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said they would continue working hard.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have no point to prove to my critics and I am happy here. We are doing our best to hit the ground running when the league games start this weekend,\u201d he closed<\/p>\n

The coach has had stints with Malanti Chiefs, Moneni Pirates, Denver Sundowns and Manzini Wanderers, among others teams.<\/p>\n
