Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>\u201cMr President, the Kingdom of Eswatini embraces multilateral cooperation and prioritises adherence to international laws when looking to address the challenges posed by conflicts and wars.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n

These were the words of His Majesty King Mswati III when speaking at the largest annual gathering of world leaders, the 78th United Nations General Assembly currently happening in New York in the United States of America.<\/p>\n

In addition to addressing world leaders on fostering peace, His Majesty also spoke on development in the Kingdom of Eswatini.<\/p>\n

\u201cSignificant strides have been made by the Kingdom of Eswatini in increasing access to electricity, since the adoption of the 2030 Agenda. We now have national coverage above 80%. Also, notable progress has been made in terms of road and ICT infrastructure connecting cities and economic zones,\u201d said His Majesty.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen it comes to access to basic water services, 69% of the population now enjoy this necessity, and access to basic sanitation services has reached 58% of our people,\u201d revealed His Majesty.<\/p>\n

He went on to speak on education indicators regarding the Kingdom of Eswatini.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe literacy rate among adults aged 15 years and above has improved from 79% in 2000 to 87%. The gross enrollment ratio for primary education has increased from 97% in 2000, to 104%,\u201d further noted His Majesty, to a round of applause.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the lead up to the SDG summit this week, the leadership of Eswatini undertook a series consultations in each region, seeking the views of the people regarding how best to accelerate the attainment of the SDG\u2019s,\u201d said His Majesty to world leaders.<\/p>\n

He further went on to remind the world leaders of Eswatini\u2019s political values.<\/p>\n

\u201cMr President, Eswatini has continued to cherish her home-grown and unique model of a people-driven democratic governance. Like many other democracies, our constitution recognises the role of the monarchy, as well as bicameral parliament separation of the powers, fundamental human rights, and the rule of law,\u201d espoused His Majesty.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt takes into account our rich cultural heritage and traditional African values, in that it is grounded in respect, consensus, and community support through traditional structures. It is a monarchical democracy,\u201d said His Majesty at the 78th UNGA.<\/p>\n

His Majesty\u2019s delegation included the Eswatini Ambassador to the United Nations Thami Dlamini, Prince Bhekokwakhe, Minister of Home Affairs Princess Lindiwe, Chief Jozane, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Thuli Dladla, as well as Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Trade Mancoba Khumalo.<\/p>\n

His Majesty joined world leaders early this week for the world leaders\u2019 conference which will be dissecting issues of peace, economic and social development, and climate change among others.<\/p>\n

The UN General Assembly (UNGA) is the main policy-making organ of the Organization. Comprising all Member States, it provides a unique forum for multilateral discussion of the full spectrum of international issues covered by the Charter of the United Nations. Each of the 193 Member States of the United Nations has an equal vote.<\/p>\n
