Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>SOUTH Africa’s long-distance runner Siphamandla Nkosi is the winner of this year\u2019s Imbube Marathon.<\/b><\/p>\n

Nkosi cruised to victory during the fifth edition of the Imbube Marathon yesterday, taking home the first prize of E30 000.<\/p>\n

The South Africa-based athlete clocked 2:31:29 hours, winning the gold medal.<\/p>\n

Another South African national Siyabonga Nkonde finished second, after having led for a better part of the 42km race that started at Somhlolo National Stadium to the capital city Mbabane and finished at Lobamba.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a really tough race. I had a poor start because I was warned about the Malagwane Hill and I decided to take it easy from the start.<\/p>\n

I kept the leading group right in front of me to save energy for the finish up,\u201d he said. Nkosi said it was his first time to participate in the 42km race, saying he was happy to have won and his experience came in handy in helping him to win.<\/p>\n

The runner-up Siyabonga Nkonde, who took home E15 000 cash prize, said he was happy to be part of the Imbumbe Marathon, saying the race was tough but he managed to pull through.<\/p>\n

He said the day’s weather was perfect; hence he congratulated the winners on the day.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Loveness Madziva from Zimbabwe clocked 3.00.03 hours in the 42km female category which she won and the runner\u2013up was Monicah Mengich from Kenya.<\/p>\n

Kiptoo Glad from Kenya was the overall winner in the 21km category after clocking a time of 1:08:55 hours and was closely followed by Albert Kangor.<\/p>\n

Tabitha Tsatsa from Zimbabwe won the 21km category in 1:39:49 hours, with the first Liswati being REPS Club athlete Samukelisiwe Thwala with a time of 3:27:12 hours in the female category.<\/p>\n

Another first Liswati to hit the finish line was Sandile Khumalo in the 42km.<\/p>\n

There were over 5 500 runners who took part in the marathon that compromised four categories, being the 42km, 21km, 10km and 3.3km races respectively.<\/p>\n
