Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>A shootout between police and armed robbers occurred yesterday morning in Matsapha.<\/b><\/p>\n

Although information is scanty, sources said a sum of money estimated at E100 000 was stolen at gunpoint at TESCO in Matsapha. Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Supermarket Phindile Vilakati confirmed the incident. During the shoot-out, Vilakati said there were no injuries. She said no arrests have yet been made. On Thursday, three armed robbers reportedly fired gunshots at Tandoori Express and went away with E19 000. Eswatini News reported that they took the money from the eatery\u2019s manager.<\/p>\n

The incident occurred at around 8pm. The manager first refused to hand over the money to them, but two others emerged from nowhere, and demanded compliance with instructions. He asked them not to shoot him, but one of them kicked him on the thigh and ordered him to release the money if he valued his life. Seeing that the situation was getting out of hand and his life was in danger, he eventually handed over the money to the armed robbers. After handing over the money, they demanded more. Irritated by his refusal to release more money, they are said to have fired shots which missed his brothers by inches.<\/p>\n
