Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>The American government has awarded Eswatini over E470 000 ($25 000) to address challenges within the education sector, livelihoods and offering durable solutions.<\/b><\/p>\n

The news were announced by John P Jenks, a political officer in the U.S Embassy in Eswatini. He made these remarks before the deputy commissioner of refugees Wandile Bhembe and World Vision acting national director Sakhile Dlamini yesterday at the US Embassy in Ezulwini.<\/p>\n

In his address Jenks said refugees, humanitarian assistance, and humane migration policies were a major priority for the United States and the United States was the largest single provider of humanitarian assistance worldwide.<\/p>\n

He said his country did the work in partnership with UNHCR, IOM and other international and NGO partners, including World Vision.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Julia Taft award is a one-time low cost intervention that responds to critical gaps in protection and assistance for refugees and stateless persons.<\/p>\n

Over the past year, the U.S Embassy team had leveraged as many resources to assist Eswatini ensured that refugees are managed as well,\u2019\u2019 Jerks said. The U.S. regional refugee assistance team from Pretoria visited Eswatini in December to re-evaluate the needs for support in Eswatini post COVID-19, he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was impressed by my visit to the Malindza Refugee Centre in April when we were joined by our refugee assistance team from Nairobi, and our participation at the Malindza centre on World Refugee Day 2023.<\/p>\n

We even made it on Eswatini TV,\u201d he said in jest.<\/p>\n

Jenks said he was looking forward to supporting the incredible work of government and of, the local leadership at Malindza and Ndzevane.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe hope this grant empowers the refugees, set into motion a sustainable path to resettlement and durable solutions.<\/p>\n

I am excited for the prospects of this project and look forward to seeing how it flourishes at the Malindza Centre and Ndzevane.\u201d<\/p>\n
