He emphasised the importance of also following the dictates of the constitution, alongside the roles of other emabandla that offer advice to the King.

In this way, His Majesty said the role Sibaya played during the people’s parliament was important in offering guidance, further encouraging the nation to deliberate on other matters of importance.

He outlined these to be the economy, social ills, unemployment and the social unrest.

As a result, the People’s Parliament will begin today at 9am at the Ludzidzini Royal Residence.

The king said the People’s Parliament would take place for as long as there were people wanting to have their say, saying that he would be informed by governors once deliberations had been concluded.

However, His Majesty reminded Sibaya to keep in mind that Incwala season was on the horizon and therefore deliberations should have been concluded to allow for the start of the annual national event. His Majesty’s speech was well received by Emaswati, as they erupted in applause as he talked about different issues.

His Majesty said a seven or eight member panel, which would lead these deliberations would also get a chance to voice out their opinions on certain issues.

The panel will be unveiled today.

His Majesty said it was important to pray before making any important decisions and he also prayed to find the captain of his ship.

“I have prayed in order to ensure that the captain will steer the King’s ship well,” His Majesty said.

His Majesty said while thinking on the ideal candidate, he realised that Sibaya is an important part of the national council, as it can also provide council to him.

“Before I appoint a prime minister, I will give you a chance to discuss in this Sibaya and advice the king on the eligible prime minister and also talk about others issues affecting everyone,” he said.

This was received by loud applause from the members of the public as they shouted ‘Bayethe’. He added that it was revealed to him that if he commissioned the People’s Parliament, everything would go well.

His Majesty mandated the People’s Parliament to have discussions and advice on who would make it to Cabinet as well.

He made it clear that the People’s Parliament would only advice and not prescribe what would happen, as according to the Constitution, the prime minister was responsible for assisting him in choosing Cabinet.

burst

“Advice to the king is just advice, it depends on whether he will take those advices or not,” he said as members of the public burst out in laughter.

Members of the public will deliberate on candidates for minister positions even before the announcement of the 20 senators who are appointed by the King.

His Majesty said the nation should also discuss around socio-economic issues and the overall wellbeing of the nation.

He invited the nation to deliberate on all issues that do not sit well with them (emanyeva).

“Deliberations will not be limited to the PM and cabinet, we also need to discuss the future of the country.

Whatever thorn you have, speaki it out at Sibaya before you get a heart attack,” he said.

Other issues that His Majesty tasked the nation to discuss were unemployment and unrest, so that the country could maintain peace.

“There are many issues, including the economy. We are just recovering from COVID-19. People are facing unemployment, all this will be discussed.

The nation has also had many challenges which threatened the country’s peace. All these issues should be discussed as we need the country to be peaceful to allow growth,” His Majesty said.

He further invited members of the diplomatic corps and people from other countries to ensure they also make their submissions on important issues affecting the country.

His Majesty also applauded the nation on the recent successful elections, which he said were declared by observer missions from different organisations as free and fair.

He said the elections were on a high standard and it was like they were being held in the country for the very first time.

The king said many Emaswati took part in the process since its initial stages and the effort by the nation was commendable.

He said he anxiously awaited the reports from different election observers including those from Southern Africa Development Community (SADC), the United Nations (UN), Commonwealth and African Union (AU) and all of them concurred that the elections were free and fair.

He said the media reported well on all the events surrounding the elections.

His Majesty said the App made by the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) and the Royal Science and Technology Park (RSTP) allowed people to follow the news through their mobile phones.

elections

He added that the App made things more exciting as it showed different results while votes were still being counted. His Majesty said the App also allowed the elections to be on the standard of other advanced countries, which meant that the elections were on first world country status.

His Majesty said Emaswati in their numbers came out to work and the work done was impressive as it was done through commitment and dedication.

“All sectors of society, including the young and old, men and women worked really hard, one could see that people did not sleep while busy with the work. It showed me that f we could work with such determination, we can conquer anything, ” he said.

He said even after the results, they awaited people who had complaints, and none registered such, which meant that all the work was successful.

He said all those who competed for all positions had to be applauded, including those who lost the election.

“Sibaya is now big, even diplomats’ and people from other nations are also taking part. They are also welcome. We like to applaud the recent successful events, including the reed dance, which imbali took part in from here and Shiselweni.

“Is it really gratifying to see imbali, even young ones, but they showed love and joy when participating in these cultural events, which is really big as they were given to Emaswati by God,” said the King.

He further applauded the success of the national 55/55 double celebration.

Former SA deputy president attends Sibaya

Former deputy president of the Republic of South Africa, David ‘DD’ Mabuza was among the throngs of people who attended Sibaya.

Mabuza, who was one of His Majesty’s guests, received a special mention from the King as one of the SA-based Emaswati who attended the important event.

“We applaud the nation for coming out in numbers, which shows they support and respect the country’s culture,” His Majesty said.

The King said there were also many Emaswati from SA, who said they would not be left behind while building their country.

He said there were princes, chiefs and the former deputy president who were all at Sibaya as Emaswati.

Meanwhile, tens of thousands of Emaswati heeded His Majesty’s call to attend the event. The cattle byre was packed as people waited in anticipation for Their Majesties who arrived just before 3pm.

Excited Emaswati took part in praise singing before His Majesty entered the kraal, while excited members of Lutsango sang and danced.

Attendants included former legislators, new MPs and Senate-elects, members of the diplomatic corps and other Emaswati from all walks of life who were anticipating what news His Majesty would bring.

For More News And Analysis About Eswatini Follow Africa-Press

Africa-Press – Eswatini.
