Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>It seems luck was not on Eswatini tennis star Bruce Gama\u2019s side as he was knocked out of the 2023 Mika Tennis Men\u2019s Championships yesterday.<\/b><\/p>\n

The first draw of the event was held at Mika Hotels in Zambia. Gama won the first match against Ndefwai Lyton of Zambia in the morning. However, he suffered a defeat in the second round at the hands of Hindolo Karim of Sierra Leone with a score of 6-3; 6-3. Gama, who was a dominant force regionally, and won the Mozambique open over a decade ago, was grateful to compete after a two-year break and said the challenge felt good. \u201cI\u2019m grateful I could come here and compete internationally after taking a break for some time and it felt good,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He further blamed his loss on lacking sharpness on crucial points, as he had not competed on the big stage for quite sometime. \u201cI was leading 40:15 most of the games and I would not finish and that\u2019s frustrating, but what can I say, I\u2019m not competing anymore. I\u2019m lacking sharpness on crucial points first set. I could have won it very easily but that is because of lack of international competition,\u201d Gama added. When asked about the experience he had in the tournament, Gama said it was not about experience for him as he knew his opponent Karim from previous games. \u201cFor me it\u2019s not experience; I went in the match knowing exactly how his game is. Nevertheless, I could not execute my game well when it mattered most; otherwise he is a seeded player in the tournament. He lost finals two years ago here, so that tells you how good he is,\u201d he said. The veteran player was Eswatini\u2019s lone representative in the tournament.<\/p>\n
