Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>The Pigg\u2019s Peak Town Council forecasted revenue for the upcoming financial year of 2024\/25 at E28 320 415.33 which is E3 million higher than the 2023\/2024 budget.<\/b><\/p>\n

This is according to the council\u2019s approved budget for the financial year 2024\/25. The council has indicated that a bigger portion income is expected to come from rating of immovable properties being E23 774 556.40 compared to rates of E20 529 223.40.<\/p>\n

A cushion of four per cent increase in rates tariffs is proposed for the financial year 2024\/2025 to fund the expenditure which is affected by the increase of goods and services due to inflation and surging electricity costs. According to the Central Bank of Eswatini, the annual inflation rate for the year ended March 2023, was 5.3 per cent compared to the previous financial year of 3.6 per cent.<\/p>\n

Current inflation rate for the year 2023 is at 4.93 per cent according to the statistics by Central Bank of Eswatini. It is forecasted that inflation will ease to an average of 4.4 per cent the next financial year 2024.<\/p>\n

Other Income of E 4.5 million will come from;<\/p>\n

Government Subvention \u2013 E630 000.<\/p>\n

User fees, market fees, Hall booking and Killarney Rental-E703 300.<\/p>\n

Office rental and Land Leases-E1 176 475.76.<\/p>\n

Interest Received \u2013E84 000<\/p>\n

Capital Improvement Grant-E1 952 082.<\/p>\n

It is worth noting that the council\u2019s budgeted income was E21 667 768.30 in the previous financial year, which was made up of government rates (billed) amounting to E14 484 303.62 and private rates billed of E4 254 030.38. It must be noted that the council was able to collect E9 542 000 of the government rates, translating to 66 per cent and E3 391 691.77 from private rates, being 79.99 per cent of rates billed.<\/p>\n

Programmes<\/b><\/p>\n

The inability of the organisation to collect all rates billed, impacted negatively, on the organisation\u2019s ability to implement planned programmes and capital improvement projects. As a result, we were forced to secure a loan of E16.5m from Standard Bank, in order to finance the construction of three roads. The CIP loan will be repaid over a 5-year period on a bi-annual basis, beginning December 2023.<\/p>\n

The CIP loan repayment has since been budgeted for in the year 2024\/25 to the tune of E4 483 642.62. This obligation limits the council to budget for other CIP in the next three years. This current financial year, the organisation has a budget income of E25 116 327.57, to date (as of September 30 2023) E12 860 208.04 has been collected, government has paid E7 203 222.00 (35 per cent) of E16 033 385 budgeted rates bill. Private rates collected amount to E2 617 831.41, which is (56 per cent) of budgeted rates of E4 618 837.56. Capital improvement program grant received amounted to E1 952 0829.96 and the other income came from user fees, subvention and rentals.<\/p>\n
