Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>The partnership between the European Union (EU) and Eswatini in the next years, under the Multi-annual Indicative Programme for Eswatini will prioritise green skills.<\/b><\/p>\n

Green skills include technical knowledge, expertise and abilities that enable the effective use of green technologies and processes in professional settings. Green skills are those skills that are needed to adapt products, services and processes of climate change-related environmental requirements and regulations. Robert Adam, Charge\u0301 d\u2019Affaires \u2013 European Union Delegation to the Kingdom of Eswatini, said this programme will also have a major focus on market-driven human capital development, Technical and vocational education, as well as training (TVET) for youth. Adam was speaking during the EU Green Power Transformation Forum 2023 held at the Royal Villas on Monday and yesterday. On Monday, the forum focused on renewable energy projects that were implemented and some that were still coming.<\/p>\n

Focus<\/b><\/p>\n

Whereas, yesterday the focus was on advancement of skills development in the country and a way forward in that regard. Stakeholders also discussed ways that the financing system could further ensure an affordable and sustainable energy transition while focusing on project finance. In his remarks, Adam said the EU believed that it was through collective duty to make the green power transition in Eswatini a process that would contributed to the energy security and sovereignty of the country, while also delivering on sustainable and inclusive economic growth and more and better jobs, especially for the youth. He said this programme was not an isolated intervention in their partnership with the Kingdom of Eswatini.<\/p>\n

He said in fact, under the scope of the EU-funded programme, \u2018Promoting growth through competitive alliances\u2019, they were supporting the operationalisation of a public-private dialogue platform, focusing on building national competitiveness. Adam said for competitiveness in Eswatini to improve, there needed to be a continuous dialogue among stakeholders. He said this would enable the country to create trust to get investors in. He added that more importantly, this dialogue will provide a platform for both public and private entities to understand the challenges and goals faced by all stakeholders. \u201cI am confident that energy will be one of the key priority issues addressed by this platform,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Crisis<\/b><\/p>\n

The charge d\u2019 affairs highlighted that the climate and biodiversity crisis were the defining, existential crisis of the current time. He said even countries that had not contributed to the problem, have to join and contribute to the solution. Adam highlighted that currently, the 27 countries of the EU, collectively, contribute to less than eight per cent of the global CO2 emissions. He said considering that this share was 15 per cent at the beginning of the millennium, one could see the effort and the commitment of the EU on this matter. He said the EU was committed to spearheading the global fight against climate change. He said EU leaders aspired to make Europe the first economy worldwide to become climate-neutral by 2050 \u2013 an economy with net-zero greenhouse gas emissions. Adam stated that this objective was at the heart of the European Green Deal and in line with the EU\u2019s commitment to global climate action under the Paris Agreement.<\/p>\n
