Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>That is the Lubombo Regional Football Association (LRFA), which has been taken to the High Court of Eswatini by one of their Super League affiliates. A source close to the matter revealed that it all started when the Nichodus \u2018Ace\u2019 Mashwama chaired football association suspended Home Sparrows. The source disclosed that Sparrows were suspended after failing to pay a fine which was imposed by the disciplinary committee (DC). \u201cIt\u2019s an open secret that the association has been taken to court by Home Sparrows after they suspended for failure to pay a fine,\u201d the source said.<\/b><\/p>\n

When asked why the team was suspended, the source revealed that Sparrows attacked referees and vandalised the stadium in one of their play-off games. \u201cAfter the DC suspended them, they then took the matter to Appeals Board, which cleared them to return to action, but the LRFA stood by the DC\u2019s verdict. That is why the matter was then taken to court,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

However, one of the key members of the association, who commented on condition of anonymity, said it was not the whole team that was suspended, but a portion of their players, who were suspended for six months. \u201cSparrows attacked officials in the play-offs and five of their players were implicated in the referee\u2019s report. They were hauled before the DC and were fined E7 000 for their misconduct,\u201d the member explained.<\/p>\n

The member went on to explain that the DC\u2019s mistake was not calling the players for the hearing, as their names were known, so when it gave out its verdict it was based on the players not the E7 000. \u201cOur concern now was how we are going to get the money after the suspension of the players was lifted. We continued to stand by our plea of not seeing the players in action until the E7 000 was settled,\u201d he said. He also said the DC\u2019s mistake made the club run to court, as they felt that the LRFA was defying the appeals Board\u2019s verdict. He further said that the matter was supposed to be heard this past Friday, but was postponed to tomorrow for unknown reasons.<\/p>\n
