Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>About 250 students have graduated at the Eswatini College of Theology (ECT).<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking during the event, Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini, who was represented by Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade Manqoba Khumalo, the premier implored the graduates to provide Kingdom solutions in this world faced with crises that are threating health, safety and the well-being of communities in Africa and around the world.<\/p>\n

The graduation was held yesterday, which also marked the 35th ECT anniversary celebration, held at the Metropolitan Evangelical Church in Manzini.<\/p>\n

He said the event was a celebration of the hard work and dedication of the class of 2023, who were graduating in the fields of Theology, Psychology, Counselling, and Christian Leadership.<\/p>\n

\u201cEqually important, this is the commemoration of the Eswatini College of Theology’s 35th anniversary, which makes this a double celebration.<\/p>\n

This, therefore, is a day of happiness, and a milestone in the lives of our graduates, for Eswatini College of Theology, for the body of Christ in Eswatini, for government and the ministry of education and training in particular.<\/p>\n

Allow me to congratulate the graduates, lecturers, staff, and college administration for making this day possible. We should give thanks to the Lord for allowing us to successfully assemble on this day to witness this momentous occasion,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The premier thanked all the attendees for the effort they made to personally attend the celebration, despite their busy lives and schedules.<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you so much for being with us. What can we, as the body of Christ in Eswatini, in all our diversity, offer to our society? Is it quality of life? Hope for a better financial situation? Freedom from problems? No – none of these things.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe truth is, what we have to offer to those around us in our beloved Kingdom of Eswatini is not an idea, but a person; Jesus Christ himself. I believe that Christ reflects through us three essential things, as Paul said in the last verse of 1 Corinthians 13, these three remain: Faith, hope, and love, and the greatest of these is love,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Dlamini urged the graduates to take pride in the fact that they were now joining the league of extra-ordinary men and women who had graduated from the great institution of learning.<\/p>\n

Minds<\/p>\n

He reminded them that they had studied alongside the sharp minds of their professors and lecturers, who encouraged and challenged them to continue the rewarding academic and spiritual path that they were commemorating yesterday.<\/p>\n

The PM further pointed out that many of the graduates had found or confirmed their calling during this amazing journey;<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you haven’t found your purpose yet, don’t give up! Knowledge is a never-ending quest,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The premier stated that his charge to graduands was that they should see themselves as transformational leaders, who were assigned to make a difference on earth, walking in the footsteps of ECT’s illustrious founders and alumni.<\/p>\n

He said some of those notable alumni were present at the graduation ceremony yesterday, and others were officiating in the programme, whilst others were serving in various positions in their respective countries, in both the Soutthern African Development Community (SADC) region and beyond.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe, therefore, look upon you to provide workable coping solutions for people who are faced with a world punctuated by crises, resulting from the moral degradation of societies, negative environmental change, and innumerable varieties of conflict, discord, and strife\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He equally charged the graduates to provide kingdom solutions in this world faced with crises.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe live in a peaceful kingdom here in Eswatini, but we cannot overlook the current crises that are a threat to the health, safety, or well-being of communities in Africa and around the world,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He made an example using the current environmental crisis in the Horn of Africa, which has left 36.4 million people across Ethiopia, Kenya, and Somalia in need of immediate humanitarian assistance.<\/p>\n

He said five consecutive failed rainy seasons have left that region facing the worst drought in four decades, resulting in extreme levels of hunger, and many deaths due to malnutrition.<\/p>\n

The premier said in 2022, a long-simmering crisis in Ukraine escalated into violence with devastating impact.<\/p>\n

He said by mid-March of that year, it became the site of one of the world’s largest refugee crises, with 7.9 million Ukrainians displaced abroad as refugees, and an additional 6.5 million displaced internally.<\/p>\n

Dlamini said the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs estimates that 17.7 million people in Ukraine required humanitarian assistance.<\/p>\n

This ongoing conflict in Ukraine, and others in the Middle East, Central Africa, Southeast Asia and South America had left untold millions of people living in fear for their current safety, and facing a future that grows more precarious by the day.<\/p>\n

He said these, and more were the crises for which the world needed workable solutions.<\/p>\n

\u201cYour multi-faceted education has prepared you to face these issues with confidence and has given you the tools for success and innovative problem-solving,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He advised the graduands that as they prepared to venture out into society, they should be a kind and virtuous neighbour to everyone they will encounter, wherever they were.<\/p>\n

He urged the graduates to fulfil their calling and purpose, to fortify the ethical threads that should unite a society and to advocate for their communities, its ideals, and its members with bravery and tenacity.<\/p>\n
