Some of the head teachers confirmed, in an interview, that spaces were still available in their schools. Mbabane Central High School Head teacher Dumisani Shabangu said they had plenty spaces available and started admissions yesterday. Shabangu stated that there was still space in Grade Eight, although in Form IV there was a challenge. “The assumption is that learners who were doing Form III will all be returning and we also have repeaters.” He said there was also Grade 10. Shabangu said the school was inviting all learners who passed Form III and were returning, to register today (Thursday). This, he said; would give them an idea of how many would be returning and the spaces available. “We, therefore, cannot say there is no space.” Shabangu said being a piloting school for the four-year programme, they were facing some infrastructure technicalities, but had reported this to the Regional Education Office (REO).

Challenges

He said the school had Form III and Grade 10 running concurrently, hence they had challenges with availability of classrooms. Shabangu said pupils who were part of the programme were enrolled on it in Form I, while there were those already in Form III and needed to be in Form IV. He said the results would inform them whether the programme was working or not. However, he said the issue of infrastructure was not something they could not handle as a school. Mater Dolorosa (MDS) High School Head teacher Fikile Ndlovu also stated that they were also admitting. Ndlovu said in Form I, they had space for 200 pupils and would be admitting until Friday. She said they had also registered their returning learners, although some indicated that they would not be coming back.

Woodlands High School Head teacher Lizzie Manyatsi said they started admitting yesterday for both Form I and IV. Manyatsi stated that they had spaces available for 150 learners in Form I and 90 in Form IV. She said initially, they were supposed to admit around 120 learners with 40 in each class as they had three streams, but admitted extra, due to the high demand for spaces. Manyatsi said they were awaiting payments from parents.

For More News And Analysis About Eswatini Follow Africa-Press

Africa-Press – Eswatini.
