Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>FORMER Manzini Wanderers player Melusi \u2018Ridondo\u2019 Malindzisa was assaulted with fists and stomped by a group of men, leading to his death.<\/b><\/p>\n

The ex-Wanderers player is said to have been attacked by a group of men while at Sidwashini, KaQobonga, on Sunday morning.<\/p>\n

It is understood that Malindzisa was assaulted following a verbal altercation with the assailants, who are suspected to be gang members from the area.<\/p>\n

According to sources, the player is said to have gone out with friends, where they visited one of the hangout spots at Sidwashini (KaQobionga) to enjoy themselves for the better part of the night.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile there, the player passed out and was left snoring by his friends as they continued to enjoy themselves as the music blurted in the background. Unbeknown to him, his friends claimed that he was pick-pocketed while in his sleep an undisclosed sum of money and his cellphone.\u201d<\/p>\n

When he woke up, the sources claimed that the ex-player is said to have been livid while questioning all those close to him about his missing money.<\/p>\n

\u201cA certain lady is said to have been pin-pointed as the culprit. He then confronted the lady to find out what happened while he was asleep. While at it, a group of young men, believed to have been members of a gang, retaliated by attacking the player, injuring him in the process,\u201d said the source.<\/p>\n

The situation was bad and other patrons could not diffuse the situation as the gang seemed to have satisfaction in their shenanigans.<\/p>\n

“They say he was badly injured and was rushed to hospital, where he was certified dead upon arrival.\u201d<\/p>\n

A family member, who preferred to remain anonymous, confirmed \u2018Ridondo\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe died while undergoing treatment at Mbabane Government Hospital. There is nothing much I can say for now except to confirm that,\u201d he said briefly.<\/p>\n

Manzini Wanderers Chairman Berger Nxumalo said they received the sad news.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are yet to reach out to his family about the sad news.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said \u2018Ridondo\u2019 played for Wanderers around 2010.<\/p>\n

Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Senior Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed the incident.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe can confirm the incident whereby a 37-year-old man of Sidwashini, KaQobonga, was assaulted with fists and further stomped.<\/p>\n

Due to the injuries suffered, he died while undergoing treatment at Mbabane Government Hospital.<\/p>\n

An investigation is ongoing,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
