Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>Punters, as online gaming clients are affectionately known, have been notified that the popular betting site known as EBET, has been prohibited, according to a statement that was issued by the Eswatini Gaming Control Board. Reasons for prohibiting the operations of EBET were not outlined in the statement, save to say 8Bet was now the legally recognised betting site. \u201cThe Ministry of Tourism and Environmental Affairs, through the Eswatini Gaming Control Board, a statutory Board under the ministry, informs members of the public that Swazi Bet, trading as 8Bet, has been granted a bookmarkers licence to operate legally in the country. The public is also notified that EBET is prohibited from operating with immediate effect,\u201d read the statement.<\/p>\n

One thing punters should appreciate is that 8Bet offers similar games that were offered by EBET and the terms and conditions are almost the same. EBET representative, Lawyer Sibusiso Shongwe, said their position on the matter was that the Gaming Board was conflicted, because just last October, they issued a statement saying 8Bet was not recognised by them, but three months later they grant it a trading licence. In the initial statement, the Gaming Control Board warned the public against engaging in any gaming activity with 8bet. Shongwe said the latest developments were not good governance from the Gaming Board. \u201cEBET has been in the country for over two years, investing millions in the process and hiring at least 60 emaSwati. It has recently offered scholarship to 55 pupils enrolled in high school. Now what kind of a Board does not consider all that?\u201d he wondered.<\/p>\n
