Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>South African businessman Dave Van Niekerk met His Majesty King Mswati III on Thursday.<\/b><\/p>\n

This is the same businessman whose name has featured prominently in the controversy surrounding the loss of E340 million by over 1 000 emaSwati. That happened after they had invested their money in Ecsponent Eswatini. Until the court pronounce itself on the matter, all individuals connected directly or indirectly with Ecsponent, on the basis of the Constitution, remain innocent until proven guilty. The meeting between the businessman and the King is said to have taken place at the Ludzidzini Royal Residence last Thursday and lasted for more than an hour.<\/p>\n

Sources claimed that he entered the country via the King Mswati III International Airport at Sikhuphe and was escorted by high profile people to the royal residence. It could not be ascertained what the agenda of the meeting was, but sources have claimed that a lot of issues were discussed. As expected, pictures of the businessman posing with His Majesty which circulated on social media platforms had people talking with some wondering what the meeting was about and how he got the opportunity to be at the palace. When sought for comment, Director of Communications at the King\u2019s Office Percy Simelane said, \u201cWe are not aware of the alleged meeting and we want to believe that it was private,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the businessman confirmed the meeting, but did not elaborate on what it was about. All that he said was that he was humbled by the hospitality that was afforded to him.<\/p>\n

Also, he said he was impressed by His Majesty\u2019s astuteness and quick wit. \u201cI don\u2019t really want to share the details because it is not my place to do so, but we discussed a few legal matters and we looked at some future opportunities, but I really enjoyed my meeting with His Majesty and the hospitality extended by his palace team,\u201d Van Niekerk said. He also stated that he wanted many emaSwati who invested in Ecsponent to get their money back and that he was of the view that the company should be put under curatorship.<\/p>\n
