Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>While the country can expect some torrential rains this weekend, it will be nothing in the scale of what Kwa-Zulu-Natal is experiencing.<\/b><\/p>\n

The Eswatini Meteorological Services Department has assured the nation that the floods that are causing destruction in KZN will not strike the country.<\/p>\n

The devastating floods in neighbouring KwaZulu-Natal have caused many locals to panic as by yesterday over 250 people had been confirmed dead following heavy rains witnessed since the beginning of the week.<\/p>\n

There is now an air of fear permeating through many with each passing day, either that the country could experience such torrential flooding or that some of the victims of the floods are locals. Homes, businesses, roads, bridges as well as electricity and water infrastructure has either been damaged or destroyed, in addition to the deaths reported. As a result, South Africa yesterday declared the province a disaster area.<\/p>\n

Meteorologist Sifiso Ndzalo has assured the public that while there are rains forecast for the weekend, the public should not panic.<\/p>\n

According to Nzalo, the torrential rains witnessed in KZN in the past couple of days started in the country last week, however, they were not severe.<\/p>\n

He said as the rains extended towards KZN, they gained momentum, hence causing mass destruction.<\/p>\n

He did however, point out that the country will experience minor rains on Saturday as a result of the torrential rains experienced in KZN. According to Nzalo, the minor rains are not expected to cause damage as has been the case in KZN.<\/p>\n

The constant rain has led to multiple drowning, landslides, power outages, water shortages and flooding of bridges, homes and businesses.<\/p>\n

Earlier, President Cyril Ramaphosa said the dire situation in KZN was the worst that the province had ever experienced.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe see such tragedies hitting other countries like Mozambique and Zimbabwe but now we are the affected ones, \u201c Ramaphosa said during a visit to the province on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
