Government, through Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Bongani Nzima, awarded the pugilists E27 000 for their hard work. This was during a prize giving ceremony at the ministry\u2019s offices in Mbabane, two days ago.<\/p>\n

The duo of Veliswa Magaya and Temalangeni Dlamini made history after clinching silver medals in Durban, South Africa (SA), during the Mandela Challenge, that was concluded on Sunday. At the closing ceremony, both boxers were awarded silver medals and participation certificates, along with a cash prize of US$3 000, which equated to E57 000 based on the previous day\u2019s foreign exchange rate.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Nhlanhla Dlamini returned home with US$1 500 (E28 711). This was after he was announced bronze winner in his category. The International Boxing Association (IBA) sanctioned event boasted of a sponsorship of around E9 million. Most Eswatini boxers left a mark in the championships after reaching the semi-finals.Minister Nzima deliberated on the amount sharing ratio. \u201cThe amount will be shared as follows; silver medallists are set to receive E10 000 each.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, E7 000 is awarded to the bronze medal winner. This is recognition for their laudable achievements,\u201d he said. The minister further commended these athletes performance. \u201cIt is pleasing to see you bring back three medals just into the new calendar year. Well done to the whole team that represented the country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Eswatini Boxing Association (EBA) President Webster Lukhele appealed for more sponsors to assist the association. There sport is so demanding on diets and gym equipment, among other things. We appeal for companies to also come on board,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
