Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>Former Athletics Eswatini (AE) Chief Operations Officer (COO) Thoba Mazibuko has been appointed as Olympafrica Centre Director.<\/b><\/p>\n

He is set to resume his duties on June 1, following the announcement by the Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Maxwell Jele today (May 15, 2024), during a press conference held at Mountain View, Mbabane.<\/p>\n

The Olympafrica centre in the country is based in Lobamba, next to Somhlolo National Stadium, where the EOCGA offices are also based.<\/p>\n

Olympafrica is a programme of social development through sport, implemented through the construction of centres intended for spreading the Olympic spirit and mass education, mainly focused on sport in economical, local sports facilities. Centres are self-managed by local populations and have facilities for sporting, cultural, economic and educational activities.<\/p>\n

Mazibuko will be responsible in running the venue that accommodates different sporting courts playing venues including tennis, netball, basketball, volleyball, teqball and handball among others. The first Olympafrica Centre was built in Somone, Senegal and was inaugurated in November 1988. Mazibuko said he was ready for challenge ahead and he hope the country will continue developing in sports.<\/p>\n
