Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>In a bold move to battle littering and illegal dumping within the Mbabane city, 27 dedicated residents from various community groups have undergone comprehensive training to become litter Wardens.<\/b><\/p>\n

The training was held through courtesy of the Municipal Council of Mbabane and Eswatini Environment Authority. It took place on Friday last week (May 24, 2024)<\/p>\n

These individuals include community police, LLC (Limited Liability Company) members, and neighbourhood watch members from Msunduza, Mbangweni, Makholokholo, and Nkwalini Zone 4.<\/p>\n

They were equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills they need to be city litter wardens.<\/p>\n

The training program focused on waste legislation and enforcement, aiming to empower the newly appointed city litter Wardens to effectively address issues related to illegal dumping and littering.<\/p>\n

The participants were thoroughly capacitated on climate change issues, underlining the significance of environmental conservation and sustainability.<\/p>\n

The Municipality of Mbabane urged residents to adhere to the regulations pertaining to water disposal, as the authorities have emphasised the illegality of dumping and littering, with serious fines being imposed for such offenses.<\/p>\n

A dedicated hotline (2409 7000) has been established to report those responsible for littering.<\/p>\n

The fines for various offenses related to littering and dumping have been explicitly outline with penalties ranging from E50 for throwing litter from a moving vehicle, to a substantial E5 000 fine for dumping litter using a vehicle or at an unauthorised location. Additionally, it was said that failure to display litter receptacles within the public vicinity may result to E5 000 fine.<\/p>\n
