Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>Lot Vilakati,the Secretary General of the Swaziland National Association of Teachers(SNAT) says they will wait for the Teaching Service Commission(TSC) to clarify its statement banning teachers from participating in politics and if this means \u201cteachers must not participate even in the Tinkhundla elections and vote\u201d.<\/b><\/p>\n

This comes after Sibusiso Shongwe, a member of the Teaching Service Commission(TSC) banned all teachers from involving themselves in politics, the statement was issued on Wednesday shortly after the newly appointed TSC members were sworn-in.<\/p>\n

When asked on Thursday to comment on the TSC statement, the SNAT Secretary General said, politics are diverse and even include trade union politics hence,they will wait for the TSC to clarify it\u2019s statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs SNAT, we understand that we are an organization of different people hence,we have never even issued a statement encouraging our members to vote or boycott the Tinkhundla. So, maybe the TSC is telling us that,by banning teachers from speaking or participating in politics, teachers must not vote in the Tinkhundla elections.Politics are diverse so they must clarify their statement not to just say teachers must not involve themselves in politics,do they even understand what is politics?. That\u2019s why in that Commission, we want people who are teachers or have an understanding of the teaching profession because even if you can ban teachers from speaking politics in schools, that would mean you are banning the History subject, history is pure politics\u201d, said the SNAT Secretary General when interviewed by editor Zweli Martin Dlamini.<\/p>\n
