Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>True to their word, and in line with their new strategy, the Eswatini Revenue Services (ERS) has written off a debt of E156 million which was attributed to Good Shepherd Catholic Hospital and College in respect of owed taxes.<\/b><\/p>\n

This incredible development was shared by Chief Executive Officer Muzi Dlamini with the employees when the institution hosted a wellness day on Friday. The institution was listed among other organisations which were reportedly owing government huge amounts of money in respect of taxes.<\/p>\n

This was as of the end of the 2021 financial year. The institution was said to have failed to remit taxes, and therefore accumulating the said amount over a number of years.<\/p>\n

The ERS has changed its approach from being an authority to a service provider and said during its launch early this month that it would now change its approach to dealing with its clients, from an aggressive approach to one where it would engage to assist companies. As such, the ERS wants to assist companies who are struggling to make good on their tax payments.<\/p>\n

When addressing the workers, the CEO disclosed that the institution had since been cleared of the debt after numerous engagements with the ministers of health, finance and other stakeholders. Dlamini recalled that he was tasked by the board of the catholic mission to work on having the institution cleared of the debt which was threatening to have it closed through law suits.<\/p>\n

The institution was on the verge of having its properties auctioned in order for government to recover the owed amount of money.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe issue of owed taxes was one of the major assignments I had to deal with. When I joined the institution, the board assigned me to work on this matter,\u201d the CEO said.<\/p>\n

Dlamini thanked the general workforce for also playing an integral in the debt being written off. He stated that the assignment would not have been successful without the input of all workers who had played their role.<\/p>\n

Dlamini said the cancelation of the debt was a historic development as the institution was the only organisation which was granted such a favour. He thanked the ministers and officials under the ministries of health and finance for working tirelessly to salvage the institution.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a milestone and a start of good things for the institution and the workforce,\u201d Dlamini said.<\/p>\n
