Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>The official opening of the Nhlangano-Sicunusa Road, scheduled for tomorrow, has been postponed to Tuesday due to predicted adverse weather conditions.<\/b><\/p>\n

People interested in partaking in the official opening of the state-of-the-art road will have to wait a day longer.<\/p>\n

This was announced by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, Principal, Secretary Thulani Mkhaliphi. With regret, the ministry informed the public that the official opening of the Nhlangano – Sicunusa Road (MR13), originally scheduled to take place at Gege Inkhundla, has been postponed. Mkhaliphi said the decision had been made due to the adverse weather conditions expected fromtoday to tomorrow.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the interest of public safety and ensuring a successful event, the official opening will now occur on Tuesday October 1, 2024 at Gege Inkhundla, starting at 10:00am,\u201d announced Mkhaliphi.<\/p>\n

The ministry apologised for any inconvenience caused by the postponement and appreciated the public\u2019s understanding.<\/p>\n

He said the ministry remained committed to ensuring the significant infrastructure development was celebrated in a safe and conducive environment. He added that the ministry of public works and transport looked forward to welcoming the public to the important event.<\/p>\n

The 43.5 km-long Sicunusa\u2013Nhlangano Road in the south-west, is part of the main network of Eswatini and provides an important connection between agricultural areas and urban centres.<\/p>\n

Works carried out under the project included upgrading the gravel Sicunusa\u2013Nhlangano road with a bitumen surface, designed to accommodate speeds of 100 km\/hour. The works also included the installation of culverts; and construction of bridges over the Mkhondvo and Ndlotane Rivers.<\/p>\n

Both rural and urban populations will benefit from enhanced local, intra-regional and international exchange of goods, as well as from improved access to social amenities. Additionally, owing to the scenic nature of the region, tourism is expected to rise, thus increasing employment and business opportunities.<\/p>\n
