Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>A nurse was gang raped by two men last week Wednesday at Zombodze Emuva clinic in the Shiselweni region.<\/b><\/p>\n

This comes after King Mswati’s Government failed to provide security services for the health institution thus exposing the health workers to risks of being attacked.<\/p>\n

Muzi Kunene,the Zombodze Emuva Member of Parliament(MP)confirmed the incident adding that as Inkhundla, they will meet with the Ministry of Health to discuss the matter.<\/p>\n

Health Minister Lizzie Nkosi had not responded at the time of compiling this report.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s true and the Inkhundla team is still to meet on Wednesday with the Ministry of Health regarding this matter”,said the MP.<\/p>\n

Reached for comments, Mayibongwe Masangane, the Secretary General of the Swaziland Democratic Nurses Union (SWADNU) said it was unfortunate that Government was not prioritizing their safety after they raised the issue of security in all health care institutions several times.<\/p>\n

The name of the nurse cannot be revealed for ethical reasons.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe union is with the family, friends and colleagues of the affected employee. Government must do something to improve safety in all health facilities in the country.If the situation does not improve we will be forced to shut those health facilities,”said the SWADNU Secretary General.<\/p>\n

It has been gathered that the clinic was closed soon after the incident forcing residents of the area to travel long distances to access medical care.<\/p>\n

Nonhlanhla Mavuso,a resident of the area expressed her disappointment at the closure of the clinic.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow we are forced to travel to Nhlangano for medical attention yet we don’t have money. A number of people will die and some will default on their medication because they can’t afford these high bus fares,\u201dshe said.<\/p>\n

Speaking to this publication, Bonsile Mamba, Chairperson of the Swaziland Rural Women Assembly (SRWA) said Government was letting down women in as Gender Based Violence (GBV) was concerned.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are disappointed as an organization that the clinic is now closed,rural women are now forced to go to Nhlangano for their health services.Government must deploy police officers to provide security to the clinic,”said the SRWA Chairperson.<\/p>\n
