Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>THE fine art industry in the country is still at its developing stages, however, more Emaswati are recognising and appreciation fine art.<\/b><\/p>\n

The few art gallaries that exist in the country are constantly recognising and supporting local artists. Some artists believe that Emaswati are more supportive when it comes to creating the platform for them to showcase. Sinenkosi Msomi said his personal experience has been great from both sides.<\/p>\n

He said Emaswati had helped him when he was still upcoming. He said they also bought more art pieces from upcoming artists. However, he said international art lovers were buying at a larger scale than locals. Bahle Gallery Director Sandzisile Magwaza said Emaswati were still hesitant in attending art exhibitions.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have noticed that most Emaswati shy away from exhibitions. Some say only wealthy people attend them. However this could not be further from the truth. We allow everyone to attend and we are happy to welcome everyone,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Magwaza said they had also noticed that most of the artists were males. \u201cIt would also be beautiful to see local females take on the industry.<\/p>\n

Most of the people that showcased here are males and I encourage young and old female painters and drawers to come up and start sharing their work with the world,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Another argument that rose was that the industry does not have enough income for people to take on it full time, hence only a few do it. \u201cMost of the artists that showcased here are employed full time and do art as a hobby.<\/p>\n

I believe they are afraid to take on it full time because it does not pay well,\u201d said Magwaza. This factor, it is said, has also contributed in Emaswati not supporting artists. They also believe in supporting companies than artists.<\/p>\n
