Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>THE Eswatini Football Association (EFA) has reportedly referred the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE)\u2019s request to review the current relegation stance to their annual general assembly.<\/b><\/p>\n

According to the 2021\/22 MTN Premier League and National First Division (NFD) rules, four teams should be relegated from the elite league at the end of the current campaign with only two teams promoted from the NFD to cut the number of teams to 10.
\nIn the NFD, six teams will get the chop.<\/p>\n

Highly placed sources revealed that after their recent executive meeting, the mother body had not accepted the request from PLE on the basis that the rules were clear on what should happen at the end of the season.<\/p>\n

Participation<\/b>
\nThey further argued that the sponsor could not afford to fork out E1 880 000 for the 30 teams\u2019 participation fees. They instead, referred the matter to be discussed during their AGM.<\/p>\n

It must be mentioned that in the current season, the mother body forked out a certain amount of money to cover for the teams\u2019 participation fees.
\nThe PLE is, however, expected to write another proposal to be tabled before the EFA\u2019s general assembly in the next two months, just like what the other EFA affiliates do if they have proposals.<\/p>\n

The PLE will have to make a presentation on how they hope to maintain the 16 teams in the elite league.<\/p>\n

Reached for comment, EFA Marketing and Communications Officer Muzi Radebe denied knowledge of the request from the PLE.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe didn\u2019t receive any letter. Maybe it is still coming,\u201d he said.
\nInterestingly, PLE Chief Executive Officer Kenneth Makhanya confirmed to this publication on May 9 that they had sent a letter to the mother body, seeking the review of the relegation\/promotion stance.<\/p>\n
