Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>The countdown is on for the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Youth Games, set to ignite Windhoek from July 4 to 13, 2025. The draws for team sports have been finalized, promising thrilling contests across volleyball, football, netball, and basketball, with ten countries vying for regional supremacy.<\/b><\/p>\n

Eswatini\u2019s young athletes face a challenging road. In netball, the U19 women\u2019s team has landed in Pool A, where they will battle heavyweights Malawi, Zambia, and South Africa. The men\u2019s U20 football squad finds itself in Pool B alongside South Africa, Zambia, and Botswana, while the women\u2019s U20 footballers also compete in Pool B, set to clash with Zambia, South Africa, and Angola.<\/p>\n

The tournament format features pool play, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semi-finals-a structure designed to ensure that only the best progress to the medal rounds. With more than 2,500 athletes and officials expected, the event is a major logistical undertaking for Namibia, which stepped in as host after Mozambique\u2019s withdrawal due to Cyclone Freddy\u2019s aftermath.<\/p>\n

Preparations are well underway, with organizers assuring that all venues will meet international standards and the University of Namibia set to serve as the Games Village.
