Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>South African artist Dr Esther Mahlangu will be recognised at the 12th edition of the annual KwaMagogo Legacy to be held at Royal Villas on Saturday.
\n<\/b>
\nThis was revealed by Elias Masilela yesterday at the Eswatini Observer offices in Mbabane. Masilela is the author of the book titled \u2018Number 43 \u2013 Trelawney Park kwaMagogo\u2019 and chairman of Number 43 Foundation Eswatini.<\/p>\n

He said the theme this year was \u2018Culture and Freedom\u2019 hence the recognition of the renowned fine artist Dr Esther Mahlangu who is globally acclaimed for her bright and bold abstract paintings which are inspired by Ndebele design.<\/p>\n

Masilela said they were praying that the artist would attend the event as she was attacked in her Siyabuswa home last month in Mpumalanga.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven if she would not attend, her family will be present on her behalf. She might not have recovered from her recent attack. However, we have faith that she will attend. This year\u2019s theme at the Gala Dinner is \u2018Ndebele Yellow\u2019 since we are proud Ndebele and we saw it fit we celebrate and honour Dr Mahlangu,\u201d said Masilela.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s gala dinner, according to Masilela, will be a family affair since they had not hosted the annual event for the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need to celebrate life humanity,\u201d said Masilela.<\/p>\n

Dr Mahlangu has spent more than seven decades practicing her art form and has travelled extensively to collaborate with the world\u2019s most respected museums, galleries, curators, art fairs, celebrities and global brands.<\/p>\n

She became the first lady and first African to participate in the BMW Art Car Collection alongside other notables of the likes of Andy Warhol, David Hockney, Roy Lichtenstein and Frank Stella.
