Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>Eswatini\u2019s leading media personalities converged at the University of Eswatini (UNESWA) on November 20, 2025, in a vibrant celebration of World Television Day, offering Journalism and Mass Communication students a rare opportunity to engage directly with the nation\u2019s broadcasting pioneers.<\/b><\/p>\n

UNESWA Vice-Chancellor Professor Justice Tfwala officially opened the event, acknowledging the rapid evolution of media technologies while reaffirming television\u2019s enduring influence. \u201cEven as technology advances, television remains the most powerful medium for public engagement,\u201d he said, emphasising its vital role in shaping narratives and connecting communities.<\/p>\n

Representing Minister of Information, Communications and Technology Hon. Savvanah Maziya, Principal Secretary Macanjana Motsa highlighted television\u2019s central role in strengthening democracy and fostering informed citizenship. She drew attention to this year\u2019s theme, \u201cArtificial Intelligence in Television,\u201d noting that AI is redefining how news is produced, packaged, and consumed. \u201cTelevision connects us to global events and delivers timely, reliable information,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Adding industry depth, Channel Yemaswati CEO Qhawe Mamba underscored television\u2019s unique ability to unite the nation through storytelling. He stressed that despite digital disruptions, TV continues to shape public discourse and build cultural identity.<\/p>\n

On the technological front, ESCCOM Chief Executive Fikile Gama delivered an insightful address on AI\u2019s growing impact on broadcasting. \u201cAI is more than a tool\u2014it is a transformative shift,\u201d he said. Gama explained how intelligent editing, automated workflows, and advanced accessibility features such as real-time captioning and translation are opening new creative possibilities while promoting inclusivity.<\/p>\n

The celebration reached a symbolic high point when Eswatini TV CEO Mlamuli Dlamini joined Qhawe Mamba in cutting the official World TV Day cake, marking unity across the broadcasting fraternity.<\/p>\n

The programme also showcased the impressive talent within UNESWA. Students premiered a short film titled \u201cAll for Nothing,\u201d a compelling production that raises awareness about the dangers of gambling\u2014a growing concern among youth. The audience also enjoyed a powerful spoken-word performance by student poet Zweli Ntshangase, whose piece on drug abuse left a strong emotional impact.<\/p>\n

Deeply impressed by the students\u2019 creativity and bold storytelling, Mlamuli Dlamini praised their work, commending their readiness to tackle pressing social issues through film and poetry. He urged them to continue refining their craft and seizing opportunities within the expanding media landscape.<\/p>\n

A dynamic panel discussion moderated by Simphiwe Nxumalo further enriched the event, as experts explored how AI complements rather than replaces human talent in broadcasting. The dialogue encouraged students to embrace emerging media technologies as partners in innovation.<\/p>\n
