Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>The Umbutfo Eswatini Defence Force (UEDF) has taken a major step toward improving its professionalism after 41 junior non-commissioned officers (NCOs) graduated from an advanced Drill and Duties course at the Mbuluzi School of Infantry.<\/b><\/p>\n

The seven-week course has traditionally been offered only to senior ranks, making this graduation a historic first for the defence force. The ceremony was led by UEDF Commander, General Moses Mashikilisane Fakudze, who described the move as part of a wider effort to modernise the army and raise its standards to match those of leading forces around the world.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the event, General Fakudze said the training reform is aimed at strengthening the foundation of the UEDF by equipping junior leaders with skills usually reserved for senior officers. He stressed that a strong and respected military depends on well-trained personnel at every level.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe hope these courses will help us grow as the UEDF and move closer to First World standards,\u201d he said, adding that modern armies rely on knowledge, discipline and leadership, not rank alone.<\/p>\n

The Commander announced that more training programmes will begin after the Incwala Ceremony. These include courses for company commanders, captains and majors, as well as leadership training for corporals and lance corporals. He also confirmed that the Drill and Duties course will be repeated for sergeants and corporals who have not yet attended it.<\/p>\n

General Fakudze said the goal is to create a more disciplined, skilled and flexible defence force that can meet national and international expectations. He noted that the graduation marks the beginning of a long-term plan, not the end.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are grateful that these officers have completed the course. What remains is for us to continue advancing in the future,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

As the newly trained officers return to their units, they are expected to share their knowledge and set higher standards of discipline and leadership, helping guide the UEDF into a more modern and professional era in service of the King and the nation.<\/p>\n
