{"id":85358,"date":"2026-02-19T18:00:40","date_gmt":"2026-02-19T18:00:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/eswatini\/all-news\/king-mswatis-40-year-reign-and-birthday-celebration-budget"},"modified":"2026-02-19T19:16:51","modified_gmt":"2026-02-19T19:16:51","slug":"king-mswatis-40-year-reign-and-birthday-celebration-budget","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/eswatini\/all-news\/king-mswatis-40-year-reign-and-birthday-celebration-budget","title":{"rendered":"King Mswati&#8217;S 40-Year Reign and Birthday Celebration Budget"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"ap-article-header-tag\"> <strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Eswatini. <\/strong> <\/span><b>King Mswati\u2019s forty (40) years on the Throne and Birthday celebration\u2019s budget has accumulated from R50million to over R100million and, will form part of the National Budget to be delivered by Finance Minister Neal Rijikernberg next week.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Mswati who ascended to the Throne on 25th April 1986, will on Saturday 25th April 2026 celebrate 40 years on the Throne and the venue is yet to be announced by the King through the Ministry of Home Affairs.<\/p>\n<p>When asked by this publication if the over R100million will be sourced from public funds, King\u2019s Spokesperson Percy Simelane said even though he was not aware of the total budget, the King has been reluctant to \u2018touch\u2019 public funds for such events amid economic constraints.<\/p>\n<p>Simelane said after the King decided to stop celebrating his Birthday as a way of avoiding to \u2018touch\u2019 public funds, businesses within the private sector offered to fund the event and assist him through the Ministry of Home Affairs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wouldn\u2019t be sure of the sum total budget because it&#8217;s done away from my office. It is the ministry of Home Affairs that is responsible for national events such as the King&#8217;s Birthday, the Reed Dance and Incwala. Of late, however the King\u2019s birthday is privately sponsored. The private sector voluntarily registered their wish to continue with it when the King decided to abandon it because of economic constraints at the time,\u201d\u2018said the King\u2019s Spokesperson.<\/p>\n<p>But the over R100million has been included in the National Budget leaked and it has been disclosed that, the contributions from the businesses within the private sector will then be included in the budget.<\/p>\n<p>Finance Minister Neal Rijikernberg is highly expected to deliver the National Budget next week after the King officially opened Parliament on Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ap-article-footer-note\">Find more news and analyses on <span class=\"ap-highlight-country\">Eswatini<\/span> on the <span class=\"ap-highlight-brand\">Africa Press<\/span> website<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Eswatini.
