MANZINI<\/b>\u2013<\/b> The Ministry of Public Works and Transport, in partnership with the Municipal Council of Manzini, has commenced a road rehabilitation project aimed at improving traffic flow and strengthening road infrastructure in the city\u2019s central business district.<\/p>\n
The project began on March 9 2026 and will focus on the rehabilitation of Ngwane Street, Nkoseluhlaza Street, the Central Distributor Road and the MR3 West Service Road.<\/p>\n
The works are being carried out by AG Thomas (Pty) Ltd, which has been contracted by the ministry to undertake the rehabilitation project.<\/p>\n
According to the ministry, the construction works are expected to run for approximately two months, beginning on March 9 and continuing until April 24 2026.<\/p>\n
During this period, motorists and pedestrians may experience temporary traffic disruptions as construction teams work to upgrade sections of the roads within the central business district.<\/p>\n
Authorities indicated that both Ngwane Street and Nkoseluhlaza Street will operate at significantly reduced capacity during the construction period to allow the rehabilitation works to proceed efficiently. Temporary road closures may also be introduced at certain stages of the project where necessary.<\/p>\n
Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Public Works and Transport Thulani Mkhaliphi has urged motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution when travelling through the affected areas.<\/p>\n
He encouraged road users to follow instructions from traffic flaggers and observe temporary traffic signage that will be placed at strategic locations to ensure the safety of both road users and construction personnel.<\/p>\n
While acknowledging that the rehabilitation works may cause temporary inconvenience to commuters and businesses operating within the city centre, the ministry and the Municipal Council of Manzini assured the public that efforts will be made to minimise disruptions as much as possible.<\/p>\n
The road rehabilitation initiative forms part of ongoing government efforts to upgrade critical urban infrastructure in Manzini, one of the country\u2019s busiest commercial hubs.<\/p>\n
Officials said that once completed, the improved road network is expected to enhance traffic flow, promote safer road usage and support economic activity within the city.<\/p>\n
