The initiative is aimed at improving quality assurance, consumer protection, and fairness across the meat value chain.<\/b><\/p>\n

The proposed standard is expected to enhance transparency in how meat quality is assessed, ensuring that consumers consistently receive safe and high-quality products. By introducing clear and harmonised grading criteria, the framework will also promote fair pricing, benefiting both producers and buyers while fostering trust within the market.<\/p>\n

This development comes at a time when food safety and quality assurance remain critical priorities within the country\u2019s agricultural and trade sectors. The new standard will provide practical guidance to key stakeholders, including farmers, abattoirs, traders, and consumers, helping to streamline operations and align industry practices with recognised benchmarks.<\/p>\n

The Ministry responsible for commerce and industry, together with strategic partners such as the European Union in Eswatini, the International Trade Centre, and the Eswatini Standards Authority, is actively participating in a Technical Committee meeting on Meat and Meat Products. The meeting is focused on reviewing and refining the draft standard to ensure it meets both local needs and international best practices.<\/p>\n

Stakeholders are expected to deliberate on key components of the grading system, including classification criteria, compliance requirements, and implementation strategies. The process marks a crucial milestone in the country\u2019s efforts to build a more structured, competitive, and consumer-focused meat sector.<\/p>\n

Once finalised, the standard is anticipated to boost confidence in locally produced meat, improve market access opportunities, and support the long-term sustainability of the industry.<\/p>\n
