Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>His Majesty King Mswati III has called for a modern, disciplined and technologically prepared military force capable of responding to evolving security threats, as the country marked the 53rd Army Day celebrations at Nokwane Defence Headquarters on April 10,2026.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking as Commander-in-Chief of the Umbutfo Eswatini Defence Force (UEDF), the King emphasised the need for soldiers to adapt to changing forms of conflict, while maintaining discipline, unity and commitment to national service.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday, we gather here to celebrate the 53rd Army Day, a day profoundly dedicated to honoring the courage, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication of the brave men and women who serve in our military,\u201d said the King.<\/p>\n

He welcomed guests from within and outside the country, as well as emaSwati following the celebrations through various media platforms.<\/p>\n

SIGNIFICANCE OF ARMY DAY<\/b><\/p>\n

The King described Army Day as a reminder of the vital role played by soldiers in safeguarding the nation.<\/p>\n

\u201cArmy Day serves as a powerful reminder of the heroes who stand as our first and last line of defense at our borderlines,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He commended the forces for their resilience, noting that they operate under harsh conditions but remain committed to protecting the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou protect our nation day and night, often enduring the harshest of conditions… despite these challenges, your commitment remains singular: keeping Eswatini safe.\u201d<\/p>\n

The King further praised the soldiers for their display of discipline and preparedness during the celebrations.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday, you have showcased excellent capabilities, skills and resources… a testament to your physical fitness, tactical preparedness and absolute selflessness.\u201d<\/p>\n

THEME FOR THE ARMY DAY<\/b><\/p>\n

Referring to this year\u2019s theme, \u201cThe Safety of the Nation is Our Priority,\u201d the King said it speaks directly to the core mandate of the UEDF.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo serve the nation is to be the shield that guards the peace. The greatest call for any military is to serve diligently, maintaining the highest standards of discipline,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He warned that the nature of threats facing the country has changed significantly.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe must recognise that the nature of our \u2018enemies\u2019 has evolved. A soldier today must not only stand against physical aggression but also against the invisible enemies of instability, lawlessness and national division.\u201d<\/p>\n

The King stressed that security must extend beyond borders to include communities, rural areas and schools.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need to guarantee that nothing threatens the peace of our citizens even in the rural areas, or the future of the children in schools.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also highlighted the importance of adapting to technological changes in modern warfare.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs technological advancements reshape global warfare, it is imperative that you constantly train and equip yourselves with the skills necessary for an ever-changing sphere.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, he cautioned that technology should not replace human presence.<\/p>\n

\u201cBe mindful that technology can never replace the human spirit. \u2018Boots on the ground\u2019 remains the most vital component of peacekeeping and national security.\u201d<\/p>\n

SUPPORT FROM ALL EXTERNAL PARTNERS<\/b><\/p>\n

The King expressed appreciation to international partners for their continued support in strengthening the country\u2019s defence capabilities.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe wish to extend our profound appreciation to our external partners for their enduring friendship. Your contributions through training programmes, infrastructure, health initiatives and equipment are invaluable,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He noted that partnerships play a critical role in enhancing national defence and enabling participation in regional and international peace support operations.<\/p>\n

FITNESS AND GOOD HEALTH SHOULD REMAIN YOUR TOP PRIORITY<\/b><\/p>\n

The King urged soldiers to prioritise their health, describing it as essential to national security.<\/p>\n

\u201cA healthy military is the guarantor of a healthy nation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He commended the army for extending health services beyond military personnel to emaSwati through clinics established in various units.<\/p>\n

CIVIL-MILITARY RELATIONS AND HUMANITARIAN SUPPORT<\/b><\/p>\n

The King applauded the strong relationship between the military and communities, as well as the army\u2019s humanitarian efforts.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe highly commend the robust civil-military relations that ensure you enjoy a solid bond with our communities,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He added that the army\u2019s role in disaster response, search and rescue, and emergency transport continues to bring hope to citizens.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe nation further commends your efficient humanitarian assistance… your presence brings hope.\u201d<\/p>\n

COLLABORATION WITH OTHER SECURITY SERVICES<\/b><\/p>\n

The King stressed the importance of collaboration among security agencies in addressing crime and corruption.<\/p>\n

\u201cYour continued collaboration with other security agencies to support law enforcement is vital,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cCrime and corruption know no boundaries; therefore, you must present a united front to guarantee our national success.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Commander-in-Chief concluded by assuring the soldiers of the nation\u2019s unwavering support and confidence in their abilities.<\/p>\n

\u201cMasotja, I want to assure you today that the nation stands firmly behind you. We are proud of your immediate response to every call whether the situation is good, bad, or life-threatening,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He emphasised the importance of completing every mission successfully.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the life of a soldier, when a task is assigned, there is no room for failure. Yours is to ensure \u2018mission accomplished\u2019 at all times.\u201d<\/p>\n

The King acknowledged the challenges faced by soldiers, including limited resources, but commended their dedication.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou don\u2019t always have all the facilities you require… but you have always shown dedication to duty.\u201d The drills were a magnificent display of precision and instruction… we are grateful for the overwhelming success of this day,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
