Fakudze said camps across the country have introduced farming projects, including bananas, vegetables and poultry, aimed at meeting daily needs while improving the welfare of soldiers.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that the initiative goes beyond food production, as it builds a culture of self-sufficiency and supports food sovereignty, where the army takes control of its own food supply and reduces dependence on external sources.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe encourage every camp to start projects that help soldiers provide for themselves and reduce reliance on outside support,\u201d Fakudze said.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that the move is already easing the burden on government, as camps that produce their own food require fewer supplies from the state. This allows resources to be redirected to other national priorities while the army supports its own needs.<\/p>\n<p>The Army Commander said some camps are already producing enough to feed their members, reflecting steady progress. In these camps, soldiers balance their daily duties with tending to crops and caring for livestock, adding a practical and grounded element to military life.<\/p>\n<p>Fakudze said the projects are also promoting teamwork and discipline, as soldiers work together to maintain gardens and ensure consistent production.<\/p>\n<p>Army leadership has been visiting camps across the country to monitor progress, offer guidance and encourage wider participation. Fakudze said these visits have shown growing commitment among soldiers to make the programme succeed.<\/p>\n<p>He stressed that self-sufficiency and food sovereignty are key to improving living conditions within the army and securing long-term stability.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond farming, Fakudze said the army continues to invest in training and development to improve the capacity of its members.<\/p>\n<p>He also announced that the army has donated E70,000 to Philani Maswati, an organisation recognised internationally, as part of efforts to support national initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>Fakudze added that the army will continue to work closely with traditional leaders, including making contributions such as cattle when required.
