Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>A strong partnership between the Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC) and MOTRACO is transforming lives, with more than 1 200 pairs of shoes valued at E490 000 handed over to schools along the MOTRACO 400kV transmission line.<\/b><\/p>\n

The impactful donation was officially presented on April 10, 2026, during a ceremony held at the EEC Learning and Conference Centre in Manzini, bringing together government leaders, Members of Parliament, educators, and community representatives.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the event, MOTRACO General Manager Mr. Aderito Sousa explained that the initiative reflects the company\u2019s commitment to uplifting communities through its Corporate Social Responsibility programme. He highlighted that the donation not only supports learners but also strengthens relations with communities living along the transmission line that connects Eswatini, South Africa, and Mozambique.<\/p>\n

Sousa further urged communities to protect critical power infrastructure, noting that vandalism of the transmission network would disrupt electricity supply across the three partner countries.<\/p>\n

Minister of Education and Training, Owen Nxumalo, applauded the gesture, describing it as a meaningful investment in the country\u2019s future. He called on teachers and Members of Parliament to ensure that the shoes are distributed fairly to the intended beneficiaries.<\/p>\n

He disclosed government\u2019s continued support for partnerships that advance education and community development.<\/p>\n

EEC Managing Director Mr. Ernest Sipho Mkhonta described the donation as a timely intervention addressing a critical challenge faced by many learners. He noted that some pupils walk long distances to school without proper footwear, exposing them to injuries and discomfort, which ultimately affects their confidence, dignity, and attendance.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis initiative restores dignity and creates a more conducive learning environment for our children,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mkhonta added that the programme aligns with global development priorities, particularly the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals on quality education and reducing inequalities.<\/p>\n

On behalf of benefiting constituencies, MP Sabelo Mtsetfwa expressed gratitude for the support and highlighted the positive impact it will have on learners. He also invited EEC to consider establishing a substation in Mafutseni, noting that land is already available for the project.<\/p>\n

Representing the schools, Mr. Dlamini of Mafutseni Nazarene Primary School conveyed heartfelt appreciation, stating that the donation will significantly improve learners\u2019 well-being and school experience.<\/p>\n

The initiative stands as a powerful example of how strategic partnerships can deliver practical solutions, uplift communities, and empower young learners to pursue education with confidence and dignity.<\/p>\n
