Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>Eswatini is pushing to unlock fresh development financing and deepen global partnerships as Minister for Economic Planning and Development, Dr Tambo Gina.<\/b><\/p>\n

The Minister is leading the country delegation to the World Bank and IMF Spring Meetings in Washington, D.C., alongside Minister for Finance Neal Rijkenberg.<\/p>\n

The high-level meetings, running from April 13 to 18,2026 have brought together world leaders, financiers, development experts and private sector players to discuss urgent global economic challenges and shape the future of development.<\/p>\n

As Eswatini Governor to the World Bank Group, Gina is leading key engagements with the bank\u2019s Regional Vice President for Eastern and Southern Africa, Dr Ndiame\u0301 Diop, on accelerating the country\u2019s development agenda.<\/p>\n

At the centre of the talks is Eswatini\u2019s performance under the World Bank-funded project portfolio, progress on economic reforms and the need to unlock more resources for national priorities.<\/p>\n

A major focus is the country\u2019s access to the International Development Association\u2019s 21st replenishment package, which has allocated about E1.4 billion (US$84.2 million) to support key development programmes. Eswatini is also expected to seek further support through the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development to drive domestic economic growth.<\/p>\n

Dr Tambo Gina is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with key African constituency leaders, including Executive Director for Africa Group 1 Zarau Kibwe and Alternate Executive Director Lonkhululeko Magagula, as the country seeks to strengthen strategic partnerships and advance its development interests.<\/p>\n

Beyond country-specific engagements, the minister will take part in key multilateral sessions, including the Africa Group 1 constituency meeting for World Bank Governors, the Development Committee meeting, a closed ministerial dialogue on water security in Africa and discussions with the International Finance Corporation.<\/p>\n

In a major boost for Eswatini\u2019s global standing, Gina has also been selected as a panelist at the launch of the World Bank\u2019s new Small States Strategy.<\/p>\n

As Small States Champion and Co-Chair of the Commonwealth Small States Forum, Gina is expected to use the platform to push for stronger support for vulnerable small economies facing climate shocks, limited fiscal space and external economic pressures.<\/p>\n

His participation places Eswatini at the centre of global efforts to drive practical solutions for small states while opening new opportunities for funding, reforms and long-term economic transformation.<\/p>\n

The Spring Meetings are expected to provide a critical platform for Eswatini to secure stronger financial partnerships and fast-track development priorities back home.<\/p>\n
