Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>Eswatini\u2019s healthcare system has received a high tech boost following the donation of state of the art, world class blood gas analysers to Raleigh Fitkin Memorial (RFM) Hospital, a development expected to transform critical care services where every second counts.<\/b><\/p>\n

Valued at over E2.7 million, the equipment was officially handed over on 16 April 2026 to the Ministry of Health through the Global Health Supply Chain Programme, with support from the United States Government.<\/p>\n

The advanced machines are set to strengthen Intensive Care Unit and High Dependency Unit services, delivering faster and more accurate diagnostic results that can determine life saving treatment decisions in real time.<\/p>\n

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Minister for Health, Honourable Mduduzi Matsebula, said the donation reflects a shared commitment to strengthening the health system and saving lives.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am always eager to be part of an occasion that marks progress and further strengthening of our health system… this occasion is more than being about the handover of new medical equipment; it is about reaffirming our collective commitment to saving lives and restoring hope to the people of our nation,\u201d said Matsebula.<\/p>\n

He said the blood gas analysers will improve the quality and timeliness of care for critically ill patients, especially in emergency settings where rapid decision making is essential. \u201cThe blood gas analysers being handed over today are a vital component in enabling our clinicians to provide timely, effective, and life-saving care,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Matsebula noted that lessons from the COVID 19 pandemic highlighted the importance of strong critical care systems and reliable diagnostic capacity during health emergencies.<\/p>\n

He said the new technology will reduce waiting times for essential diagnostics and improve the country\u2019s ability to respond to outbreaks and humanitarian crises. The Minister further stressed the importance of proper use and maintenance of the equipment, saying healthcare delivery depends on both technology and skilled professionals.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile equipment is essential, it does not treat patients on its own. It is the skilled hands, professionalism, and responsible management of our healthcare workers that ultimately save lives,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

ENHI Chief Executive Officer Mazwi Mavuso described the equipment as a major advancement for clinical care, saying it will improve decision making, reduce delays, and strengthen emergency response capacity.<\/p>\n

He said RFM Hospital, together with its network of clinics, plays a central role in serving a large portion of the population and supporting national referral systems.<\/p>\n

Board Chairperson Strydom Mpanza also expressed gratitude to the United States Government, describing the donation as a strong demonstration of partnership aimed at improving health outcomes for emaSwati.<\/p>\n

The handover comes as the Ministry of Health continues efforts to strengthen critical care services and modernise diagnostic capacity across the health system.<\/p>\n
