Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>The headline inflation rate for the country for the month of June 2022 has gone up by 0.7 per cent to 4.6 per cent.<\/b><\/p>\n

This was for the annual percentage change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for June 2022 compared with that of June 2021. This annual rate is 0.7 percentage points higher than the corresponding annual rate of 3.9 per cent observed in May 2022. CPI is a measure of the changes over time in general level of prices for consumer goods and services that households acquire use or pay for. CPI helps in measuring changes in the cost of living.<\/p>\n

The Eswatini Inflation report for the month of June was released on Friday by the Central Statistics Office Director Amos Zwane. The report indicates that the month on month inflation rate (such as the percentage change in the CPI in June 2022 compared with that of May 2022) is 0.9 per cent. The higher headline inflation according the report was due to increasing annual rates of change reflected in June. \u201cIn the price indices for furnishing, household equipment and routine household maintenance increased from -1.2 per cent in May 2022 to 1.0 per cent in June 2022. Small tools and miscellaneous accessories; and non-durable household goods mainly resulted in the higher index in this category,\u201d it explained.<\/p>\n

It indicated that transport increased from 7.4 per cent in May 2022 to 9.2 per cent in June 2022.<\/p>\n

This according to the report is due to notable rates of price increases in fuels and lubricants; and spare parts and accessories for personal transport and equipment, resulting in a higher index in this category. \u201cFood and non-alcoholic beverages which increased from 5.4 per cent in May 2022 to 6.7 per cent in June 2022, non-alcoholic beverages (such as coffee, tea and cocoa; mineral waters, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices) and food (mainly milk, cheese and eggs; bread and cereals: and oils and fats) resulted in the highest index in this catalogue,\u201d the report reads.<\/p>\n
