Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>The unique \u2018Bible in the soccer field’ tournament was officially launched on Thursday afternoon at the Eswatini Bible Society Centre in Mahlanya with a E300 000 sponsorship package.<\/b><\/p>\n

The one-day tournament will feature four teams at Mavuso Sports Centre next Saturday, making a return after a three-year absence. It will also be the first cup competition to be played in two seasons since the outbreak of the coronavirus.<\/p>\n

The 2017 and 2018 editions had featured only two hub sides namely, Manzini Sundowns and Manzini Wanderers who have both won it. In the last edition, which was in 2019, there was an addition of two more teams in Moneni Pirates and Mbabane Highlanders.<\/p>\n

Revealing the exciting news of the competition\u2019s return and the package was Eswatini Bible Society Chairman, Professor Nomsa Mndzebele. She said the tournament was aimed at promoting the word of God on the football pitch and encouraged the public to show up in their numbers on the day of the competition. Supporters were reminded that entrance to the games would be a Siswati Bible. The chairman also shared news of a partnership they had struck.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are promoting the word of God. Let us all come together to watch football and I am trusting God that Emaswati will come in their numbers. I also thank all four teams that will be participating and we are expecting some exciting matches. I am also excited to announce our partnership with the Manzini Municipal Council and One Billion Rising,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Manzini Municipal Council Mayor Quinton Els said the tournament would promote good humanity values that were aligned with the teachings of the gospel.<\/p>\n

He further extended his appreciation as a city to the four teams and their players for agreeing to use their entities and talents to preach the word of god and promote a life of moral and good values in the society.<\/p>\n

Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Chief Operations Officer (COO) Pat Vilakati conducted the draw which pitted defending champions Manzini Wanderers against hub rivals Moneni Pirates. Meanwhile, capital city giants Mbabane Highlanders have a date with Manzini Sundowns with each team to receive E50 000 participation fee.<\/p>\n

To add icing to the cake, Eswatini Bible Society CEO Dr Ngcebo Mbuli also announced that they planned to continue to sponsor and run the tournament for three more years.<\/p>\n

Mbuli said everyone needs the word of God and they want to ensure that Bibles are everywhere.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs we launch the tournament, may I announce that we are planning to sponsor the competition for three more years. I would like to appreciate the PLE for the support and I see growing influence of the bible in the soccer field. We need the word of God everywhere and we want to ensure that the word of God is accessible to everyone,\u201d Mbuli said.<\/p>\n
