Ethiopia Participates in 146th Assembly of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Manama

Africa-Press – Ethiopia. A delegation led by Speaker of the House of Federation of Ethiopia Agegnehu Teshager is participating in the 146th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Manama, Bahrain.

The Assembly is being held from 11-15 March 2023, hosted by the Parliament of Bahrain, according to Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Speaker addressed the Assembly on a range of subjects, including efforts to ensure lasting peace in Ethiopia, effects of COVID19 on Ethiopia’s economy, climate change- induced drought in the region and environmental protection initiatives.

He has also explained to the audience the steps taken by the government to ensure lasting peace in the country by establishing the All Inclusive National Dialogue Commission and bring an end to the conflict in northern Ethiopia through the Pretoria Peace Agreement.

Additionally, he discussed al-Shabab and the fight against terrorism in the region, as well as Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative, efforts to increase women’s participation in parliament, and Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative.

The 146th Assembly of Inter-Parliamentary Union provides opportunities for the community of parliaments to meet and facilitate the dialogue aimed at strengthening parliamentary efforts within the framework of the general theme.
